Not thinking about this any more now! Throw the tracks in the air and reorder them any way you like if you want, it'd make sense whichever order they come down in. Right, it is officially 2010 in my mind starting from NOW. Let's go! |

| | lloyd ft. j holiday & nicki minaj - take it off | ] | i twittered this the other day but i keep going back and back and back to it and really, this is amazing stuff and everyone should be on it: Lloyd's new free 8-track EP, Like Me: The Young Goldie EP.
My girl Nicki Minaj fucking SLAYS her verse on "Take It Off" - slow, menacing one-liners, voice rising almost to a bellow, then "IF HIP-HOP WAS DEAD - BITCH I JUST BROUGHT HER BACK" and then that crash and then the fucking doubletime flow, oh man it is one of the finest pop moments of the year.
Another random Lloyd leak, "Night & Day", which isn't on the EP, has crept up and become one of my favourite late-night jams of the year:
And we have all heard Nicki's foray into dubstep, "Saxon", right? It's a Rihanna demo apparently (hence the "bitches it's RiRi" intro) but Nicki's way ahead of the other rappers who've done dubstep this year (Snoop, Eve) because of the way she bends her voice to mirror the beat.

| | amerie - love's off the chain | ] | OK, so, Animal fucking Collective. I might hate Tumblr more than them, what a mess of a platform that is - how the hell you all keep track of what anyone's saying I've no idea. Hence, posting this here.
Noticed a certain...entitlement on the part of the AC defenders. Maura, as ever, has nailed what's so obnoxious and grating about their reactions:
I'm merely pointing out that I don't get it, and that the idea that this song is an inviolate addition to whatever canon comes out of 2009 isn't shared by every person out there who writes about music...[There is a] particular demographic sweet spot that is eating up AnCo, which is kind of overrepresented online when compared to the rest of the world out there.
^^^^^^^^^Can we just c/p these two points into every AC discussion from now on?
It seems to have gone in one ear and out the other though. In the very next comment, "scott pgwp" says:
I never really got into Pavement or Sebadoh in the 90s, but there they are in the canon. Animal Collective will be there too.
And elsewhere, Perpetua:
The record is a big deal, just fucking get used to it cos it's not going away.
No, it fucking won't be "canon" (not so much that I have to care, anyway), and no, it fucking isn't a big deal. Why do Pitchfork indieists assume that they're the centre of the critical universe, and pretend that people who don't buy into that aesthetic don't exist? AC will be indie canon, obviously, but that is a TINY TINY PART of the world of popular music. Unless they somehow manage a crossover hit, no one else will give a fuck.
AC - thankfully - aren't even that big a deal among UK indie critics - I was expecting talk about them to be far more ubiquitous this year, and happily it wasn't. Most music critics I know either dislike them, or don't care enough either way to have expressed an opinion.
It's funny how people laugh at Cassie for her failed career - with reason - but her worldwide hit "Me & U" is already far more of a big deal in the actual real world than anything AC have released. |

idk why i spent so long filling up my ipod before coming to conference; between events all i've listened to is a) girl jerk and b) young dro. i heart young dro.
"on fire" is one of my fav hip-hop bangers this year. just so big and confident and FWD MOTION. chickens at the restaurant, chickens in my chevy truck.
"clean with it" has one of the sickest beats i've heard this year. first 10 times i listened to it i couldn't even focus what dro was saying b/c i was just going WTF at the beat. i'm glad i eventually did, though: TILAPIA N SHARK IN THE PURPLE PONY DROP ♥ ♥
"take off": thugged out ecstasy rap truly is the finest genre ever. file this alongside hood headlinaz' "rollin" and wile out. young dro we in the club, my wrist cost a hundred racks; when i pop a pill i take off like a thundercat.
it's not on youtube and livejournal is truly, astonishingly stupid when it comes to embedding videos from other sites. GET IT TOGETHER, TECHNOLOGY. here is a link to watch it.
some old dro favs. "tropical": "i ain't scared, i'm ridin' round bumpin' cyndi lauper" is one of the best hip-hop lines ever on so many levels.
t.i. has a guest spot on "shoulder lean", remains fine while doing so. and then i pimp a ho, take a bitch to berlin...
rubberband banks, boi-i-oi-i-oing tokyo diamonds, choi-i-oi-i-oing
outer space ballin', put you up on astronomy mathematically with a pistol i do trigonometry humbly, eat up a nigga like a piranha be ridin' in a cut the same colour as a bumblebee |
