idk why i spent so long filling up my ipod before coming to conference; between events all i've listened to is a) girl jerk and b) young dro. i heart young dro.
"on fire" is one of my fav hip-hop bangers this year. just so big and confident and FWD MOTION. chickens at the restaurant, chickens in my chevy truck.
"clean with it" has one of the sickest beats i've heard this year. first 10 times i listened to it i couldn't even focus what dro was saying b/c i was just going WTF at the beat. i'm glad i eventually did, though: TILAPIA N SHARK IN THE PURPLE PONY DROP ♥ ♥
"take off": thugged out ecstasy rap truly is the finest genre ever. file this alongside hood headlinaz' "rollin" and wile out. young dro we in the club, my wrist cost a hundred racks; when i pop a pill i take off like a thundercat.

This was taken after the junior Wimbledon final in 2006. Luckily Rybarikova just won her first ever senior final over the weekend at Edgbaston, whose residents were spared any loss-induced potential shooting spree. She has a great grass-court game! Slices, and volleys and such. I think she looks remarkably like Samantha Morton. |

i bit the bullet and listened to a stream of the animal collective album - it's EVEN WORSE than i thought it would be. not only do i loathe this with every fibre of my being, i can't hear what anyone would like about it at all. the flattened-out production, whereby everything sounds as if it's been mixed at the same level, makes me feel physically nauseous, like you're drowning in all that CLUTTER. there are about a million things going on but there's no purpose or point to any of them beyond just thoughtlessly piling more and more crap into the mix. the songs are flimsy and go nowhere. i find the entire aesthetic kind of creepily infantile. and most of all - this is how i just cannot comprehend anyone liking them - DUDE CANNOT SING. like, not at all. and his voice just booms out over the whole thing randomly (it sounds as if he hasn't actually heard the music before laying down his vox, or maybe he just has no sense of rhythm, or maybe BOTH), this horrible honking, flailing, pitchless, lifeless sound. i want to actually slit his vocal cords. i'm actually ANGRY that anyone could make music like that and have the temerity to pass it off as art, let alone forward-thinking, critically approved music. this makes me EVEN MORE ANGRY THAN LADY GAGA ffs. this is easily going to be the worst thing i hear this year. as far as i'm concerned, anyone expressing approval for it automatically rescinds their right to be taken seriously about music.
